Commuters faced fresh travel misery on the Piccadilly line after a broken rail caused delays.

Passengers were forced to find alternatives ways to travel after the line was suspended between King’s Cross and Arnos Grove on Friday morning.

Transport for London said there were severe delays on the rest of the line.

The disruption was caused by a broken rail at Turnpike Lane station at about 7.20am.

It follows emergency engineering work on the line on Thursday, which caused delays for passengers from about 1pm.

Engineers carried out emergency works in the Turnham Green area with the disruption continuing into the evening.

The Piccadilly line was plagued with delays for weeks from late November after its fleet of trains were taken out of service to fix wheels worn down by wet leaves on sections of track.

A TfL spokeswoman said: "We are sorry for the disruption this morning, which was caysed by a broken rail at Turnpike Lane station. Engineers were on site and working to fix the problem."

TfL said the broken rail was fixed at about 10.30am and that services resumed in both directions at this time with severe delays.
