Furious commuters faced travel chaos at Euston station after a person was hit by a train.

The busy transport hub went into meltdown after the incident caused a number of services to be cancelled on Wednesday evening.

The nearby Euston underground station was closed due to overcrowding as the backlog of cancelled rails services and diverted journeys spiralled out of control.

Delays of up to two hours were expected for the rest of the evening from the London station after the person was struck by a train close to Harrow and Wealdstone Station.

Major disruption continued past the evening rush hour period, and angry commuters took to social media to vent their outrage.

One passenger wrote on Twitter: “Every time I travel out of London Euston with @VirginTrains the trains are either delayed or cancelled. How?”

Others gave up on travelling home altogether and booked a hotel nearby.

“Gave in and booked a hotel for the night, was going nowhere from Euston,” one frustrated transport user wrote.

National Rail said in statement: “Earlier this evening a person was hit by a train near Harrow & Wealdstone. Emergency services have dealt with the incident, allowing some lines to reopen.

“Trains between London Euston / Shepherds Bush and Watford Junction may still be subject to major disruption as services recover.

“Trains may still be delayed by up to 120 minutes, cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.”
