Broken traffic lights and a road accident have led to gridlocked traffic and long delays on the A4.

The traffic lights have failed at the junction of North End Road and the A4 Talgarth Road, leading to tailbacks in both directions.

Traffic is slow on approach to the junction, with eastbound queues approaching Hogarth Roundabout.

Transport for London (TfL) tweeted to warn passengers that bus routes 28 and 391 were subject to diversion and delays in both directions at North End Road.

On Twitter, Dana Trometer, who lives in west Kensington, described the junction as a "kamikaze crossing" after having to cross the road to take two young children to school this morning.

She tweeted: "I just moved my kids to a new school accross the road, I am now regretting it only for the fact that this road is dangerous."

The 41-year-old film maker told the Standard: "That big crossing is usually a very dangerous crossing already, we already have problems crossing the road with traffic lights.

"This morning with no traffic lights everybody was driving their cars the way they wanted, it was totally bad, with pedestrians stuck in the middle.

"We had to jump onto the big highway to get across.

"I don't think I'd ever let my kids go to school alone."

Further west along the A4, one lane of the Great West Road is also blocked at the junction of Oil Mill Lane, following a collision between two cars at around 10am this morning.

Westbound congestion is tailing back into Cromwell Road, as traffic navigates around the collision.

A TfL spokesman said engineers were on site at Talgarth Road working to repair the traffic lights, and motorists have been advisted to approach the junction with caution.
