Just when you thought 4K was as good as TV was going to get, LG has unveiled its latest creation: an 88-inch 8K OLED television.

The tech company specialises in developing dazzling displays, and its latest takes OLED tech to the next level.

The huge 88” TV is due to be displayed at CES 2018, the Las Vegas-based tech trade fair taking place next week.

OLED offers ‘perfect black’ hues and better colour accuracy, with pixels that illuminate individually rather than requiring a full backlight across the TV.

While TVs larger than 88” have been displayed previously, LG’s latest is the largest 8K OLED screen yet.

Just like 4K offers four times the pixels of 1080p HD, 8K brings four times as many pixels as 4K, meaning top picture quality across the 88” screen.

“The successful development of the world’s first 8K OLED display is a milestone for the 8K era and underscores the exciting potential of OLED,” says In-Byung Kang, LG Display’s Executive VP and Chief Technology Officer.

“OLED is clearly a next-generation technology leader and for this reason, LG Display is accelerating its research and development into OLED so that we can provide differentiated products to customers and markets.”
