Consumer technology giant Lenovo has finally entered the handheld PC gaming market, throwing it into direct competition with products like Valve’s Steam Deck.

The new device, called the Lenovo Legion Go, allows users to play the latest high-end PC games while using a pair of removable controllers, much like the Nintendo Switch.

The announcement came at the IFA Berlin Trade Fair, one of Europe’s biggest consumer electronics events.

The highest-spec version of the Legion Go includes an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor with up to 16GB of RAM, and up to one TB of storage. This provides more than ample processing power for almost all of 2023’s AAA titles.

The Lenovo Legion Go is set to debut in October and retail prices start at £699, compared to the Steam Deck’s base price of £349, making it the more expensive but higher spec option.

The Legion Go has roughly the same retail price as the ASUS ROG Ally, another handheld Steam Deck competitor, which launched in July of this year.

Unlike the Steam Deck, which uses its own custom OS based on Linux, Legion Go runs entirely on Windows 11. The new product’s removable controllers also differentiate Lenovo’s latest offering from the Steam Deck.

Weighing roughly 854g, the Legion Go is also slightly heavier than Valve’s Steam Deck.

The newest portable device wasn’t the only new announcement to come out of the IFA.

Lenovo was also able to announce the new Legion Glasses, which will retail at £329. Users will be able to plug these into their devices to enjoy a large-screen gaming experience on the go, though without 3D VR capabilities.

These lenses feature 1920 x 1080 micro-OLED displays for each eye and both plug-in and charge via USB Type-C.

If you’re yet to convert to handheld gaming, Lenovo also launched the Lenovo Legion 9i (16”, 8), a new 16-inch gaming laptop with a self-contained liquid-cooling system.
