Elon Musk has announced he will release his long-teased artificial intelligence company tomorrow, November 4.

The Tesla CEO and owner of social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, revealed vague details about the imminent release, saying he will release his first product this coming weekend - but offered very little details on how it will work or who it will be released to.

Mr Musk announced on Friday, November 3 that the release of the AI company - which will be called xAI - would be available to a "select group of people" and boasted it is the "best that currently exists" in the world.

Mr Musk did not say who would have access to the model first or what the product would do — an AI model is a broad term for an algorithm that has been trained on a set of data to perform a particular task.

He first announced the launch of xAI back in July and said his aim was “to understand the true nature of the universe”.

Musk first co-founded OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, in 2015. He stepped down from the company in 2018, allegedly after a failed takeover attempt, and has publicly criticised it for prioritising profits over safety since.

He claims that he is the reason the company exists today but has long spoken about the responsibility as technology creators to explore the use of emerging AI while keeping it safe.

The xAI company’s 12-strong team is headed up by Mr Musk but includes some of the biggest and best minds from the science world, such as top researchers hired from high-profile AI labs like Google DeepMind, OpenAI and Microsoft.

He said: "In some important respects, it (xAI's new model) is the best that currently exists."

Mr Musk was one of the higher-profile names who attended Britain’s AI safety summit earlier this week.

During a Q&A session with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hosted on X after the summit, Mr Musk said AI was going to be the “most disruptive force in history”, though concluded it will ultimately “be a force for good”.
