All the E3 2018 announcements you need to know about

Didn’t make it to LA for E3? We’ve got you covered
1/21

The world’s biggest gaming expo, E3, has been rumbling along in Los Angeles this week.

From Fortnite on Nintendo Switch to a first glimpse at The Division 2, the gaming announcements have been thick and fast.

But, for those who didn’t get a seat at the gaming conference, no fear.

Here are all the E3 2018 announcements you need to know about.

Fortnite on Nintendo Switch

After Apple let us down over the SE2 release at WWDC, we’d given up on rumours coming to fruition. But Fortnite on Nintendo Switch delivered at E3.

Nintendo announced that the popular game, Fornite Battle Royale, was arriving on its Switch console asap. You can download the game for free now.

However, there is no cross-play with Fortnite players on the PlayStation 4, meaning that if you’ve been playing the game on a PS4, you can’t use the same account to play on the Switch.

Fornite’s fans are pretty angry about this, though this could change in the future. Watch this space.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch

Also on Switch, Super Smash Bros.Ultimate is going to be arriving on your console from December 7.

Every single fighter ever seen in the whole Super Smash Bros. series is featured in the new game, from the classic Mario character, such as Donkey Kong, to Pokemom characters, such as Jigglypuff.

It’s a mish-mash of characters but it’s what Super Smash Bros. fans seem to love.

There’s an eight-player multiplayer mode too so you can try out all those different characters with your friends.

Ubisoft announced The Division 2

The Division 2 will be released later this year
Ubisoft

The Division was hands down Ubisoft’s best-selling title, but all signs point to The Division 2 topping its predecessor.

The Division 2 follows a similar premise; the US is in crisis, but this time it’s not a pandemic in snowy New York but it's Washington D.C which is on the brink of collapse. The Division agents are tasked with halting the chaos and saving the city.

The Evening Standard was given first access to play the game, which is due for release in March 2019, in a beta mode.

Here, you have to fight off waves of enemies working together in a team with three other agents. As you wander through the ghost town that Washington has become with your squad, you must stay alert to fight off rebels and help revive your team-mates if they end up low on health.

What is most enjoyable is the impact of shooting when targeting an enemy; the controller shakes and moves about in a realistic way, forcing you to learn how to keep it under control.

This is not by any means an easy game – and that’s a good thing.

With the game’s launch still some time away, the limited gameplay can only tell us so much about what to expect. But, with some tweaks in the latter stages of development, The Division 2 appears to be building on its promising platform and confirming its status as a leading title.

Bethesa revealed the Fallout 76 trailer

Games developers Bethesda revealed a few new games at E3 but the biggest reveal was the trailer for Fallout 76.

The next in the popular Fallout Series is going to be a multiplayer online game, the first one in the universe.

Set in West Virginia in 2012, you can play by yourself or team up with friends to build bases, fight off monsters and fend off the enemy

The new game will be on sale in November 2018.

We got a first look at the next Microsoft Halo game

Master Chief is back in the form of the next Microsoft Halo game, Halo Infinite.

At the company’s E3 event on Sunday night, Microsoft’s head of Xbox Phil Spencer said Infinite will be Master Chief’s “greatest adventure” yet.

But, that’s pretty much all we found out about Halo Infinite. We don’t even know a release date yet but from the first look, it’s going to be pretty spectacular.

Assassin’s Creed is going to Ancient Greece

Ubisoft was busy this week. Alongside announcing The Divison 2 it also revealed the trailer for the next instalment in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Set in Ancient Greece, players will be able to play as either Alexios or Kassandra, two warriors who share the bloodline of a “legendary Spartan hero.”

The new game looks to be a dramatic tale of love and war, featuring ship battles, land battles and a little bit of romance.

The new game will launch on 5 October later this year.
