Photo-sharing social-media app BeReal has increased its daily post limit, reportedly in response to a falling number of users.

The platform launched in 2020 but became a hit last year, with users enjoying the chance to share a photo of themselves and their immediate surroundings in a two-minute window of any given day.

The French app alerts users to the window to upload a photo with a notification saying, “It’s time to BeReal” which could come at any point. The feature was a hit and TikTok followed on by introducing “Now” which operated a similar function.

British users will be the first to test a new feature on BeReal, which will see the notification flash up an additional two times. It means it is possible to share three times a day when the changes kick in and the company has hinted it may be the first of several changes.

A statement read: “Internally, we’ve been challenging ourselves (heads up, we are going to be doing a lot of that) to rethink the fundamentals of how BeReal works while making sure we stick to our core principle of authenticity.

“That’s why we are excited to test Bonus BeReal with our UK users. Bonus BeReal are designed to balance our core value for authenticity while enabling users the freedom to share some of the special moments from their daily life that happen outside the two-minute window. Whoever said we have to abide by a once-a-day rule forever?”

The statement added that users would only get the bonus posts if they check in within the two-minute slot. If one posts late, they will only be able to post once.

Additionally, through BeReal Audio, there are two additional times to share music and podcasts you are listening to at that exact time. This feature can synchronise with Spotify and iTunes.

“Remember this is a test, so don’t be surprised if we change some things as we go,” the statement added.

It has not yet been announced when Bonus BeReal will be launching.
