The latest Assassin’s Creed game includes a ground-breaking detail only just discovered by scientists.

New research using cosmic ray imaging has revealed a hidden chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is being hailed as the most significant pyramid discovery since the 19th century.

But the newly-released Assassin’s Creed Origins, set in Ancient Egypt, already features the chamber in its digital depiction of the pyramid.

Game developers Ubisoft have spoken about the extensive research undertaken to create Assassin’s Creed Origins’ world, consulting historians and Egyptologists.

As well as the newly-discovered chamber, the pyramid in the game includes other undocumented cavities and an internal rampway.

The series’ in-house historian Maxime Durand took influence from French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin, who hypothesised that the bottom of the pyramids were constructed from the outside base, but that the upper layers were built through a spiral ramp inside the structure.

Responding to a Tweet from a games journalist who joked that it’s “time for an Assassin’s Creed Origins patch”, the game’s Creative Director Jean Guesdon replied: “No need of a patch. We knew it thanks to Jean-Pierre Houdin. Just go and visit the 2 antechambers, the noble circuit and the inner ramp.”

He also replied to another Twitter user, explaining that the game developers weren’t tipped off about the pyramid discovery beforehand.

“We knew about the theories of JP Houdin,” he wrote. “We knew about the research. But didn't know about the announcement and the finding. Anticipation!”

The game, released at the end of October, is soon set to feature an update unlocking ‘Discovery Tour’ – a game mode which strips out story and combat and allows users to explore the digitally-recreated Ancient Egypt with extra educational information about the era.

Assassin’s Creed origins is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC
