Netflix now has a new rival in the UK with Apple TV+ finally landing on these shores after months of build-up.

The tech giant's new streaming service went live in more than 100 countries on November 1 and will house a number of original shows and movies.

Apple hopes to take on giants such as Netflix and Amazon with its first foray into the streaming business, and represents a shift in the company's outlook as it moves towards services instead of relying on hardware sales.

Here's all you need to know about Apple TV+.

What is Apple TV+?

Apple TV+ is Apple's very own TV and film subscription service, and will include a number of original programmes, movies and documentaries.

To put it simply, is a new video streaming service with $1bn-a-year (£770m) worth of original programming.

It has now launched in more than 100 countries, and show higlights include Truth Be Told, a crime drama starring Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer, and star-spangled satire The Morning Show.

Apple TV+ is available within the existing Apple TV app, and users will also be able to access content from other channels and providers, such as HBO and Amazon Prime.

How much will Apple TV+ cost?

The service will cost £4.99 per month in the UK - much cheaper than rival Netflix which costs around £8.99 a month.

It also comes with a seven-day free trial.

However, savvy customers can get a year free if they buy a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch within three months of today.

If you want to get the service but don't have a compatible device, you can buy the Apple TV HD box, which costs £149.

What shows will be on Apple TV+?

There will be a whole host of brand new content for users to enjoy, including Truth Be Told, The Morning Show and Spielberg’s big-budget reboot of his 1980s sci-fi anthology series Amazing Stories.
