How to play Sonic the Hedgehog and other SEGA Classic games via Amazon Fire TV

Amazon is bringing 25 SEGA Classic games into your home with Fire TV

Sonic the Hedgehog and a whole host of SEGA classics are back, thanks to Amazon.

As part of the 30th anniversary of the SEGA Mega Drive console (also known as the SEGA Genesis), Amazon has partnered with SEGA to launch 25 of the most popular games on Amazon Fire TV.

The SEGA Mega Drive was an incredibly popular console when it was released in 1988. It sold over 30 million consoles worldwide, mainly due to the success of Sonic the Hedgehog.

And, whilst the Mega Drive is going to get its own re-release in 2019, thanks to Seattle-based company Analogue which will be releasing the Mega SG, the Amazon partnership is a chance to play some of the most well-known SEGA games for the small price of £11.99.

How to play SEGA Classic on Amazon Fire TV

If you’re an Amazon Fire TV customer, you can access the vintage games, including Golden Axe and Streets of Rage, using the Fire TV stick.

All you need to do is press the home button on the Alexa Voice Remote until you see four icons. Select the apps icon, which will take you to a page listing all your Amazon apps.

Simply choose SEGA Classics to begin downloading the games.

Instead of having to buy a console and controllers, fans only need a Fire TV remote to get stuck in into the games, though there is the potential to pair a compatible Bluetooth controller to the device.

With a total of 15 multiplayer games, the SEGA Classics will keep you and your family occupied throughout the whole Christmas period.

Here is the full SEGA Classics Games list:

If you were more of a PlayStation fan than a SEGA player, then Sony’s PlayStation Mini, a compressed version of the classic console, went on sale at the start of December in the US and Canada.

The console, which is 45 per cent smaller than the original, comes pre-loaded with 20 titles including Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash and Wild Arms.

Let the retro gaming commence.
