Good news for Amazon Fire TV owners – you can now browse the web on your box.

Amazon has added Firefox and Silk browsers for the streaming box just in time for Christmas.

The software can be found in the app store on the stick, or downloaded through Amazon on desktop web browsers.

“With full Web browsers on Fire TV, our customer entertainment and information options are greatly expanded,” said Marc Whitten, vice president of Amazon Fire TV.

“We want to make it easy for customers to access the Web from the comfort of their couch. We're excited to bring web browsing to customers on every Fire TV device in every country where they're sold.”

While web browsing will be generally useful, it’s also likely to allow users to view YouTube videos on Amazon’s streaming device after Google pulled the YouTube app from Fire TV.

The move came as part of an ongoing feud between Amazon and Google, which partly revolves around the fact that Amazon doesn’t sell Google’s Chromecast streaming device on its webstore.

In a release on the Firefox website about the Amazon Fire TV app, Mozilla wrote: “Once installed, you can launch popular video websites, like YouTube, load any website address, and search the web for videos to play full screen on the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.”
