Victoria Beckham has released a statement calling for the fashion industry to take real action in helping the Black Lives Matter movement, saying "we can all be better."

Beckham, who launched her namesake fashion label in 2008, posted on Instagram to say she has taken a "step back" this week to "focus on the tragic events that have been highlighted recently."

"I’ve been truly sickened by how deeply ingrained racism is in our society," she wrote, "It’s clear that it’s each of our responsibilities to speak out and I want to use my platform for education, conversation and change."

"At Victoria Beckham, we have always striven to be inclusive, but we need to look inwards and be better" she wrote in an Instagram slide. She revealed as "a start" that an internal group would be set up within the fashion brand to monitor inclusivity across casting, suppliers, and partners.

Her comments follow protests unfolding in America and across the world following the death of George Floyd, an African American man who died in police custody.

Earlier this week, Beckham revealed she had spent time with her family at the weekend "talking and reading about the issue" and highlighted a variety of campaigns, including Color Of Change, to help her with "listening and learning."

"Whilst things won’t change or be solved in a day" she said, "we clearly can’t wait another day to start and I am absolutely committed to being better and doing more, both personally and professionally."
