Former Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie has admitted having “buyer’s remorse” after voting to leave the European Union.

Writing in his Sun column, he described feeling a “surge” of power when casting his vote in favour of Brexit on Thursday.

But the ex-editor implied he regretted the decision after the Leave campaign secured a narrow victory in the historic referendum.

“When I put my cross against Leave I felt a surge as though for the first time in my life my vote did count. I had power,” he wrote.

“Four days later I don’t feel quite the same. I have buyer’s remorse. A sense of be careful what you wish for.”

He added: “To be truthful I am fearful of what lies ahead.”

His comments come amid huge uncertainty over the seismic repercussions of the vote and widespread fears over the impact on the economy.

Mr Mackenzie also hit out at pollsters who had predicted a victory for the Remain campaign in the lead-up to the vote.
