Senior London Labour MP Margaret Hodge has said Ed Miliband is failing to connect with voters — and should learn from Tony Blair.

She said Mr Miliband was liked by people he met but was yet to master the media. “He communicates incredibly well on the personal level,” she said. “That’s got to translate into communication in all the channels that are open to him.”

The Barking and Dagenham MP, tipped as a potential Labour mayor, speaks out in an exclusive interview on LondonLive with Standard editor Sarah Sands on Monday. She adds: “Tony Blair was an incredible communicator.

Before he went into anything he took a deep breath, he thought about what he was moving in to. He was clear what was going to face him. Maybe that’s a little trick to learn.”

The unflattering comparison is a blow to Mr Miliband, who distanced himself from the Blair era in his leadership campaign.
