Tory MPs just lovin’ it as they chow down on Macs

Nice to see that some Conservative MPs are bucking the elitist trend. After yesterday’s silver spoon report — revealing the extent of Parliament’s deeply entrenched private school bias — the Londoner was amused to see fast food becoming such a popular part of the political diet.

On Wednesday Conservative Party chairman Grant Shapps tweeted that he was casually chowing down on one of McDonald’s meals in his Hertfordshire constituency while watching a car chase unfold outside the window. The next day fellow Tory Chloe Smith announced she would be hosting her surgery today beneath the Golden Arches in Norwich — following in the footsteps of James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, who’s already been known to meet constituents in the presence of the Hamburgler.

Given just how many parliamentarians seem to be “lovin’ it”, we can only wonder whether Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt will be tempted to join the greasy-fingered brigade — his new commitment to improve the depressing food standards at the NHS has already been lambasted by some for still allowing burger joints to operate on hospital premises. Perhaps serving up a tray of Happy Meals might raise a few spirits, if not his detractors’ temperatures?
