Harry and Meghan’s good reception at the jubilee will encourage them to come back to the UK before long, thinks royal watcher Tina Brown, pictured.

“After everything that’s gone down, it’ll take a couple of years. But I prophesise they’ll be back,” the ex-Vanity Fair editor told us last night. “I don’t think it’s going very well in California”. Brown saw love for the pair last weekend: “They weren’t booed, but cheered.”

Brown wrote The Palace Papers, a recent history of the Windsors, and helped break news of trouble between Charles and Diana.

Speaking at the launch of Sally Emerson’s book Perfect, Brown said other royals will want a Sussex return. “They need the sizzle of Harry and Meghan,” she said, praising Harry’s “humanity”. “Kate and William do a brilliant job holding it all up, but it’s high pressure. They need them back.”

Artist Ai Weiwei wasn’t impressed by the new Serpentine Pavillion at the launch in Kensington Gardens last night. “I prefer your shoes,” he told us, adding: “It’s not that I don’t like it, I don’t get it”. American artist Theaster Gates’s Black Chapel design of the structure had mixed reviews: one compared it to a mausoleum. Weiwei created the 2012 edition. The Serpentine’s Hans Ulrich Obrist defended the work, saying the Chinese artist was being subversive: “that’s his Dada side”. Attending were designer Foday Dumbuya and artist Yinka Ilori.

Model Suki Waterhouse hosted pal Lady Clara Paget at a dinner for fashion label Reformation’s new Covent Garden shop. Paget looked glamorous here and in pictures online, but told us she’s spent most of her first pregnancy eating in dungarees and enjoying early nights. ”That’s definitely the whole Instagram versus reality situation” she said. “Nine o’clock is my cut-off when I am not out!”. Models Eva Apio, Emilia Boateng and Neelam Gill also tried out the sustainable line for size.
