To the dogs’ dinner at Mayfair club George last night attended by Yasmin Le Bon and Patrick Cox. It was quite a scrum with tiny hounds on leads getting tangled underfoot and there was more commotion when a waiter dropped several bellinis — dubbed “beaglinis”.

Nibbles were passed around at the event in aid of the Dogs Trust but there was anxiety about whether they were for dogs or owners. The club, owned by Richard Caring, was launched by Mark Birley, who was mad about dogs. He rescued one from Battersea Dogs’ Home, which he called Help, and was often seen in Berkeley Square shouting: “Help, help.”
