Louise Mensch makes a tweet of herself over anti-Semitism

Political tweets: Louise Mensch
18 August 2014

Not long ago Tory leader David Cameron was cautioning that too many tweets make a 17th-century term for female anatomy — perhaps he might want to reiterate that point to his erstwhile MP Louise Mensch.

The chick-lit author and New York émigré now lives out much of her political life on Twitter. For the past few weeks she has been lambasting critics of Israel for not understanding the history of the Jewish state. Yesterday Mensch announced that she intends to eliminate all anti-Semites from her Twitter feed: “Anybody using the term ‘Zionist’ to me is automatically muted for anti-Semitism.”

She was promptly challenged by novelist Tom Knox, who asked, “So you’d mute Theodor Herzl?

“Who?” retorted Mensch. “If he uses Zionist then yes … anti-Semitism. Not having it.”

Admirable, we’re sure. But it would have been tricky for Herzl to avoid using the term — he was the founder of the Zionist movement.

May The Londoner suggest Mensch does a little homework before taking to Twitter in the future?
