Jude Law sets off, leaving troubled western behind

More drama on the set of forthcoming western Jane Got a Gun. The Londoner reported yesterday that Scottish director Lynne Ramsay shocked 150 crew members by failing to show up for the first day of filming, and now Jude Law is said to have withdrawn, with reports suggesting the Cold Mountain actor’s involvement hinged on Ramsay being at the helm.

Law had been set to play the outlaw husband to Natalie Portman’s cowgirl. Warrior director Gavin O’Connor has been rapidly recruited to replace Ramsay. Michael Fassbender also dropped out in February.

Law’s UK agent was unavailable to comment but the fact the film seems to be becoming a white whale for its producers is not without irony: Ramsay’s next project is set to be an intergalactic adaptation of Moby Dick.
