It's been a bumpy ride for cycling chief Ann Kenrick

17 July 2013

These are sad days for Ann Kenrick, secretary-general of the Franco-British Council. On Friday, wearing her other hat as chair of the London Cycling Campaign, she gave a speech to 1,000 cyclists at Tower Hill mourning the death of the French student killed while riding a Boris bike in Aldgate on July 5. Minutes after she finished speaking, she was told her 15-year-old nephew Guy Gibson had been crushed cycling in Wandsworth. “He is in King’s Hospital and is lucky to have got away with a broken pelvis,” says Ann. “He won’t be able to walk for maybe six months.”

Last night Kenrick joined a protest ride in Russell Square. Tonight she’ll be at the Foreign Office, where the Franco-British Council celebrates its 40th birthday. Another chance to report that cycling is safer in Paris.
