IPPR tops up its reputation

Fear and loathing in wonk land, as Prospect magazine’s annual Think Tank Awards were distributed at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall last night. The controversial IPPR stirred the waters by producing think-tank “top trump” playing cards for the event, on which it won most of the categories. But then, as one wonky wag at the event told The Londoner, “Funnily enough, there wasn’t a category for political independence”.

Prospect editor Bronwen Maddox had her revenge though. Nodding to the IPPR’s ongoing battles with regulators about their closeness to Labour, she announced its victory as Social Policy Think-Tank of the Year - “Think it’s safe to say it may have some influence on Labour Party,” she said.
