Life of Pi author Yann Martel is very much un homme sérieux, to the point that some even suggest he is a literary snob. So how will the Canadian author, who now lives in the UK, feel about all the Hollywood glitz as the Ang Lee-directed film has been nominated for 11 Oscars, including best picture?

So quite early on, 20th Century Fox acquired the rights, and then took its sweet time to get it made.” Martel thought it unfilmable because the sea scenes, in particular, are difficult. “If I were a filmmaker, I wouldn’t have [made a film based on Life of Pi], just because of all of the challenges,” he said.
