Are all writers clairvoyant?

11 September 2014

Talking of predictions, yesterday it was announced that a team of Canadians have found a long-lost British ship at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. It sank during an 1845 Franklin expedition to the North-West Passage. Many searches have been launched in recent years but explorers should, perhaps, have just asked Cormac James.

The author’s novel, The Surfacing, is released next week and there is something serendipitous about the narrative. It traces the trail of a ship which, in 1850, set sail to find the lost Franklin vessels in what became one of the great maritime mysteries. This foresight has us wondering if all authors are imbued with clairvoyance.
