A woman has died in a flat fire in Westminster in central London.

Around 30 firefighters were scrambled to the scene of the blaze in Page Street around 5.10pm on Sunday, along with police and paramedics.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led a man to safety using a fire escape hood.

He was assessed at the scene by paramedics.

A woman found inside the first-floor flat that was on fire was pronounced dead at the scene, said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.

The fire, which damaged most of the flat, was under control by around 6.10pm.

The fire is being investigated by LFB and the Metropolitan Police.

A Met spokesperson said: “Police are working to confirm her identity and inform next of kin.

“The cause of the fire is currently unknown.”
