A Twitter user suffered a barrage of abuse online after complaining that the Met police's helicopter unit was keeping her awake late at night.
Twitter user @ausetana, who has since deleted her account, complained at the Metropolitan Police: "Why are u flying over east London at 2am? It's completely unnecessary to b that noisy at this time. I doubt you can see anything!"
MPS Helicopters replied to their 91,000 followers: "Not sure if searching for a stabbing victim and firearms suspects is unnecessary, but apologies if you were disturbed."
The user was promptly exposed to a barrage of abuse from other users of the social networking site.
One wrote: "Well let's hope its not your family member or loved one they are trying to help."
Another posted: "Haven't you heard - criminals don't go to bed at 10pm. Oh & there's night vision & heat seeking technology too."
Others were less kind. One wrote: "that has to be the dumbest tweet I've ever seen!"
Another said: "I love the gall of a keyboard warrior. Just wait til they are burgled, don't make too much noise apprehending suspect."
When pressed on why user @ausetana might have deleted their Twitter account, the Met told website Buzzfeed: "Well, maybe they decided that social media was not for them."
