'This is f***ing personal': Labour MP Jess Phillips in furious row with Jeremy Corbyn's strategy chief

Personal: Jess Phillips hit out at Mr Milne
PA

A Labour MP was overheard furiously confronting Jeremy Corbyn's strategy chief as tensions in the party boiled over.

Shocked onlookers reportedly heard outspoken MP Jess Phillips, who has been a vocal critic of the Labour leader, telling Seamus Milne: "This is f***ing personal!"

It came after the Birmingam Yardley MP apparently confronted Mr Milne at Portcullis House yesterday.

The Times reported that she had challenged him on abuse being hurled at Labour MPs, claiming one of Mr Corbyn's supporters had threatened to take a blowtorch to her neck.

But according to Ms Phillips, who resigned from her parliamentary role two days ago, Mr Milne dismissed her concerns, claiming he had received similar threats.

He then allegedly told Ms Phillips that her faction would need to stand a candidate against Mr Corbyn as the Labour leader was not about to resign, and that Ms Phillips "should not take it personally".

It was then that Ms Phillips allegedly shouted at Mr Milne, before branding him a "c**k".

Mr Corbyn has refused to quit as Labour leader despite losing a no-confidence vote yesterday by 172-40.

In a statement issued within minutes of the result, Mr Corbyn said: “I was democratically elected leader of our party for a new kind of politics by 60 per cent of Labour members and supporters and I will not betray them by resigning.

"The vote by MPs has no constitutional legitimacy.”
