St Patrick's Day Parade 2017: Thousands of Londoners transform capital into sea of green

1/16

Central London was transformed into a sea of green as thousands of revellers celebrated the annual St Patrick's Day Parade.

Crowds dressed up as a colourful procession of floats, marching bands and dance troupes made their way down Piccadilly past some of the city's landmarks.

The parade started in Hyde Park Corner before travelling down Piccadilly and Regent Street and finishing up by Trafalgar Square.

Presenter and comedian Dara Ó Briain was enlisted as the Parade’s Grand Marshal.

The main celebrations happened in Trafalgar Square, with Irish standup comedian Jarlath Regan hosting the afternoon of entertainment.

London mayor Sadiq Khan spoke to the crowds, and there was music from Liam O'Maonlai, Lisa Lambe, Jack L and Derek Ryan.

The programme also showcased the very best new talent in the shape of The Rusangano Family

Meanwhile a street food market - with traditional and modern Irish food - and tea stall was there to keep everyone’s energy up.

Official celebrations for St Patrick's Day have taken place in London since 2001.
