Sir Mo Farah has delighted young runners as he ran alongside them at a London fun run and high-fived others at the starting line.

Sir Mo and former England cricket captain Andrew Strauss were among the elite athletes, fun runners and fundraisers taking part in the Vitality Westminster Mile on Sunday.

Video showed Sir Mo taking off from the starting line alongside children taking part in the race.

He was also a guest starter for the family waves and was seen high-fiving the runners as they took off from the start line of the mile-long race from The Mall to Buckingham Palace.

Sir Mo is hoping for his sixth victory at the 10 kilometre Vitality London 10,000 on Monday.

The Vitality Westminster Mile is the world's biggest timed mile with events for all ages and abilities.

The Olympians Mile at 1.55pm brings together athletes who have competed for Great Britain in any sport at any Olympic Games (summer or winter).

The elite races will see European indoor 1,500 metres and 3,000 metres champion Laura Muir running while Chris O'Hare is hoping to become the first man in the history of the Vitality Westminster Mile to break the four-minute barrier.

British runner Steph Twell and her partner Joe Morwood will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the fastest mile holding hands.

Strauss was joined by England's ICC men's World Cup squad, the Middlesex team and hundreds of people from the cricket world for the Ruth Strauss Foundation Family Mile.

The 12.10pm run was the inaugural event for the Ruth Strauss Foundation, founded by the former cricketer in memory of his wife who died in December 2018 from a rare form of lung cancer.

Strauss said: "Ruth loved families spending time together and it will be wonderful to see so many families come together on Sunday May 26 to celebrate her life."
