Purley crash: Driver fighting for life after car hits lamppost in south London

A driver is fighting for life after his car crashed into a lamppost in south London.

The 55-year-old man was rushed to hospital after his vehicle veered off the road and hit a lamppost in Purley this afternoon.

London’s Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene in Godstone Road at the junction of Downs Court Road at 1.30pm.

Paramedics, firefighters and police also attended.

Officers said the man was taken to a south London hospital in an ambulance. His injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been made.
