Prudential Ride London 2018: Route, map, the road closures, date and more

Everything you need to know about getting around the city during the Prudential RideLondon event

This weekend, London will be flooded with people pedalling away on their bikes for the annual Prudential RideLondon.

The cycling festival, taking place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July, is aimed at encouraging people to take up the form of more active and environmentally friendly travel.

While thousands take to the streets on two wheels, there will be a large number of road closures across London.

Here's what you need to know about RideLondon and how it will affect your weekend travel:

Which route will RideLondon follow?

On Saturday, the route will cover much of central London. On Sunday, the routes will cover east, central and south-west London as well as parts of Surrey.

Which roads will be closed during RideLondon?

In preparation for the event, from 7:30 am on Friday 27 July to 6:00 am on Monday 30 July, the Mall (between Horse Guards Road and Queens Gardens) and Marlborough road will be closed.

Road closures will be in place across central London on Saturday 28, as the cycle route follows an 8-mile circuit of closed roads in Westminster and the City of London.

These are the roads that will be closed from 5:00 am to 18:00:

These are the roads that will be closed from 6:00 am to 18:00:

  • Aldwych
  • Angel Street
  • Cannon Street
  • Cheapside
  • Cornhill
  • Fenchurch Street
  • Gresham Street
  • Holborn
  • Holborn Viaduct
  • King Edward Street
  • King Street
  • Kingsway
  • Leadenhall Street
  • Lincoln's Inn Fields
  • Lothbury, Bartholomew Lane
  • New Change
  • Newgate Street
  • Newman's Row
  • Puddle Dock
  • Queen Victoria Street
  • St Martin's Le Grand
  • Threadneedle Street
  • White Lion Hill

These are the roads that will be closed from 7:00 am to 18:00

  • Upper Thames Street
  • Victoria Embankment
  • Aldwych
  • Kingsway southbound
  • Waterloo Bridge

These are the roads that will be closed from 7:00 am to 19:30

These are the roads that will be closed from 4:00 am on Saturday 28 July- 6:00 am on Monday 30 July

  • Constitution Hill
  • Horse Guards Road
  • Birdcage Walk
  • Spur Road
  • Great George Street

On Sunday, roads will be closed across east, central, south-west London and in parts of Surrey.

What buses will be running during RideLondon?

Most central London buses will not serve their usual stops, and many bus routes will be on diversion or will finish early due to road closures.

On Saturday 28 July, these bus routes will be affected:

  • 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 43, 45, 46, 56, 59, 68, 76, 87, 88, 91, 100, 133, 139, 141, 159, 168, 171, 172, 188, 242, 243, 341, 388, 453, RV1, N8, N11, N15, N26, N133, N551.

Where possible, it's advisable to travel by tube and rail.

Where can I watch RideLondon?

The best places to get a glimpse of the action on Saturday 28 are St James's Park, Green Park, Westminster, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square.

On Sunday, get yourself a spot at one of these prime viewing locations:
