Pensioner dies after being hit by a lorry in Greenwich

An elderly woman has died in hospital after she was hit by a lorry on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called at approximately 9.20am on to reports of a collision between in a lorry and a a female pedestrian in Lewisham Road, close to its junction with Friendly Place.

The woman, who was in her 80s, was taken by the London Ambulance Service to a south London hospital in a critical condition, but passed away on Sunday, 11 October.

It is thought that the collision occurred as the lorry pulled away from traffic lights, and officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Catford are investigating.

The driver of the lorry, a 52-year-old man, stopped at the scene.

He was arrested in connection with the investigation and taken to a south London police station. He has since been bailed to date in mid-October.
