Nickelback fans are becoming increasingly anxious the band will have to cancel their concert tonight due to an ongoing security alert at the O2 arena.

For nearly four hours North Greenwich station has been on lockdown as police and a “bomb squad” deal with an emergency on a train near the stadium.

Some fans have taken to Twitter to voice their concerns the Canadian band might be forced to cancel their concert...but others are refusing to let the police incident dampen their mood.

Fans of the band, who have had hits with How You Remind Me and Rockstar, have been asking the O2 for any information ahead of the gig just hours away.

But a spokesman for the O2 said they believe the show will be going ahead as planned tonight.

Stars: Nickelback have sold 50 million albums worldwide.

Lesley Holman said on Twitter: “@Nickelback just heard station and area around O2 shut down, will you still be playing tonight?”

Chloe Wallder tweeted the arena: “Will the Nickelback concert still go ahead tonight?”

Lisa Warner tweeted a link to the news story about the O2 evacuation with the caption: “@Nickelback this might affect your gig tonight…”

Others are worried about making the long journey if there is a risk the gig may be cancelled.

But other people on Twitter who have different music tastes were not so worried.

Other fans were oblivious to the security situation and shared their excitement on social media about the gig.

Rock band Nickelback, headed up by lead singer Chad Kroeger, have sold more than 50 million albums with 2001 song How You Remind Me being rated as the best-selling rock song of the decade by Billboard.

Tonight's London concert will be followed by performances in Liverpool on Saturday, Glasgow on Monday and Newcastle on Tuesday.

North Greenwich station has been closed and a cordon is currently blocking off the O2 with police patrolling the area.

The British Transport Police said they and the Met Police had specialist officers on the scene.

An O2 spokesman told the Standard: "The information we have is that there is a suspect package on a train currently in the station and the bomb squad have been called to investigate."

Nickelback have not responded to any of their fans' concerns.
