A newsagent was forced to close after inspectors found an infestation of mice during a routine visit.

Jumbo's Newsagents, in Kilburn High Road, north London, was shut down on October 23 when council officers found gnawed packets of chocolate bars, mice droppings on food items for sale and traps hidden at the back of shelves.

They also came across rodent poison and dirt mixed in with boxes of crisps as well as droppings on top of packets of Maltesers for sale.

A Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice was issued by Brent Council and approved by Willesden Magistrates Court.

“Residents should contact us if they see that an establishment is unhygienic. Our food safety teams carry out regular routine inspections but we also rely on residents to help us on these matters."
