Fatal fire: A man has been killed after a blaze ripped through a flat in Finsbury Road

A man has died after a fire ripped through a ground floor flat in north London.

Firefighters wearing oxygen masks pulled the man from a blaze at an apartment in Wood Green in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Medics fought to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two fire engines and 14 firefighters were sent to tackle the fire in Finsbury Road shortly before 2am.

The blaze was brought under control by 3.15am. Crews from Hornsey fire station attended.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
