Malala Yousafzai has celebrated her graduation from Oxford University at a restaurant in central London.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, 24, marked finishing her philosophy, politics and economics degree on Monday with a meal at the Indian restaurant Colonel Saab in Holborn.

Colonel Saab owner Roop Partap Choundhary said: “It was an astonishing moment and a great honour for us at Colonel Saab to host Malala and Asser for her graduation dinner. Long live her legacy.”

She posed for a picture with restaurant staff and signed a copy of the menu. She said: “Thank you for the amazing food.”

The restaurant opened earlier this month and boasts a range of authentic Indian delicacies with a twist.

Ms Yousafzai was shot in the head by the Taliban in October 2012 for critcising the group’s attempts to prevent Pakistani girls from going to school.

She survived the attack and was transferred to the UK for medical treatment, eventually settling with her family in Birmingham.

There she continued her education and she became an advocate for girls’ education through the Malala Fund, an organisation she founded.

In December 2014, she became the youngest-ever Nobel laureate after gaining recognition for her work.

She graduated last year but had to postpone graduation due to the pandemic.
