Londoners march to highlight water crisis

22 March 2012

A group of employees marched across Waterloo Bridge with their day's supply of water to mark World Water Day.

19 employees of The One Brand crossed the Thames carrying brightly-coloured buckets, to highlight water supply problems faced by over 780 million people worldwide.

World Water Day is held annually on March 22 to address global food and water availability.

Hundreds of millions of people across the world lack access to a basic water supply. Contrary to popular belief, water scarcity even occurs in areas where there is plenty of rainfall or freshwater.

According to World Walks for Water, 360,000 people in more than 60 countries have been walking to mark the day.

Ten thousand people will walk in Nigeria and a further 40,000 are expected to walk in Madagascar. Both countries are directly affected by clean water shortages.
