A London woman has been dragging a tyre to work through the capital in preparation for the first all-female attempt to ski coast-to-coast across Antarctica.

Londoners have taken to social media to comment on the bizarre sight of a woman dragging a tyre covered in Christmas lights around landmark sites.

Sophie Montagne, from Battersea, has pulled her tyre on the seven mile journey from her home to her office in Farringdon, as part of her training regime.

Ms Montagne will be one of 12 women from the Regular Army and Reserve to take part in a challenge in Norway later this month.

The women will ski up to 25km per day, dragging their sledges and pitching camp in 24 hours of darkness.

At the end of the expedition the organisers will choose seven women to form a final five person team to put forward for the world record attempt.
