A less than cunning fox cub had to be rescued by a London vet after it became trapped in his dishwasher.

Simon Hayes, head vet at Village Vet in Winchmore Hill in Enfield, revealed the cub greeted him as he opened the washer on Sunday evening.

The creature, who was unharmed, managed to scamper to safety past cutlery and crockery to his mother outside after Mr Hayes coaxed it from the appliance.

The strange encounter was revealed by staff at Village Vet, who posted it on their Facebook page.

The post read: “Our Head Vet at ‪#‎Winchmore‬ Hill, Simon Hayes had a bit of a ‪#‎shock‬ Sunday night when he walked into his kitchen and found a ‪#‎fox‬ cub in his dishwasher!

“Simon managed to coax the terrified little guy out and he ran outside to be reunited with Mum. A bit different to finding the next door ‪#‎cat‬ in your house!”

Some said the fox was lucky to be alive while others pointed out the animal was fortunate he found the home of a vet.

Charlie Greaves said: "A close brush with death there - imagine if the the dishwasher was turned on with the little guy inside!"

While Susan Westwood wrote: “Oh no at least the cub picked the right dishwasher. If anyone knew what to do it is Simon Hayes.”

Lauren Kaplan added: “That fox sure is dishy, not washed up at all.”
