Former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone was told he should "know better" when he got his foot caught in a closing Tube door.

Mr Livingstone, a former Labour MP, was filmed arguing with a Transport for London (TfL) worker while his foot was stuck inside the carriage and the rest of him remained on a station platform.

In the footage, the TfL employee appears to try to help get Mr Livingstone unstuck but the former politician accuses him of "trying to push me over".

Mr Livingstone, clad in jeans, a khaki jacket and a scarf, is heard saying: "Now open and let me get on."

After being told the door is open, he adds: "Let me get on."

The worker then responds: "Ken Livingstone - you should know better than this, What are you doing?"

Mr Livingstone said the incident took place on Monday morning at Willesden Green Underground Station, a Jubilee Line station.

He told the Standard: "I was looking to get on the Tube and my foot got caught as the doors closed on it.

"What was odd is normally when that happens the driver would open the door - but that didn't happen. I just thought it was bizarre.

"Eventually the driver opened the door and I was able to get on and that was it."

Mr Livingstone said he was not deliberately trying to hold the train and getting caught was accidental.

"I just thought it was bizarre, everybody rushes for the Tube," he said.

Mr Livingstone said he was not injured or hurt in the incident.

A TfL spokesperson said: “We encourage all of our customers to stand clear of the doors for their own safety and to help us run a reliable service.”
