'This seems a bad idea': Jeremy Corbyn blunder picked up as Sky News film cabinet meeting

Jeremy Corbyn has been caused further embarrassment today after admitting it was a mistake to let Sky News film a shadow cabinet meeting – in comments broadcast on television.

The beleaguered Labour leader invited a film crew to the meeting of his new shadow cabinet which had been hastily assembled after the mass-walkout in recent days.

Footage from the room released by Sky News showed the Labour leader staring awkwardly into the camera before telling his top aide Seumas Milne: “This seems a bad idea.

"Seumas, I'm not sure this is a great idea either."

He then added: “Are we getting the camera to go?” before the filming is stopped.

When the cameras started up again, there had been a change in the personnel sat beside Mr Corbyn, with deputy leader Tom Watson no longer there.

Mr Corbyn's parliamentary aide Steve Rotheram had taken his place with newly-promoted MP Cat Smith also replaced in her chair by shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry.

Tom Watson had been completely cut from the shot.

Many shadow cabinet positions remain unfilled as Mr Corbyn struggles to recruit a full team in the wake of a large number of sudden resignations.

Sixty local councillors, party officers and executive members have sided by roughly 10 to one with the no confidence moves against Mr Corbyn.

But thousands of people appeared on Westminster Green yesterday to show their support to the under-pressure Labour leader, who has vowed to fight on.
