Scores of people are jokily claiming they had millions of pounds of gold stolen in the Hatton Garden heist after a woman belatedly claimed she was also a victim in the robbery.

A woman came forward one year after the famous heist when she realised one of her safety deposit boxes containing £7 million of gold had been stolen.

Her discovery takes the total stolen in the Easter bank holiday weekend raid to £21 million. It is thought to be the biggest burglary in English history.

Shortly after the news was revealed by the Met Police, people began posting online claiming they were also victims in the iconic theft.

Twitter user Alec messaged the Met online and said: “Hi, I seem to be missing 10 million pounds worth of gold, how do I make a claim please? #hattongarden”

Maryam claimed she “just realised” she is missing £5 million in gold but “can’t remember any codes and lost my receipts”.

Others made jokes about losing different amounts of money in various other ways.

Seven members of the gang, dubbed the “Diamond Weezers” due to their elderly and frail nature, were jailed last year.

They ransacked 73 safe deposit boxes after drilling a hole into the vault wall.
