Hackney crash: Female cyclist fighting for life after being hit by car in Mare Street

A female cyclist was today fighting for her life after being hit by a car in Hackney.

The 20-year-old woman suffered head injuries during the collision in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash in Mare Street shortly after 4am.

The busy street was shut for about three hours between the junctions with Amhurst Road and Graham Road.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 04:21hrs on Saturday, 15 October to reports of a collision between a car and a cyclist in Mare Street at the junction with Amhurst Road.

"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found the 20-year-old female cyclist with a head injury. She was taken to an east London hospital where she remains with injuries thought to be life threatening or life changing.

"The diver stopped at the scene. They were not arrested and are assisting police with their enquires.

"Enquires continue."
