Gordon Ramsay’s exclusive new Harrods venture charging £80 for a burger

Mouth-watering or eye-watering?
Gordon Ramsay is launching the new burger bar in Harrods

Gordon Ramsay has launched a new restaurant at Harrods charging £80 for a burger - without chips.

The Michelin-starred chef's new venue will open on December 4th and is designed to impress - with some high-quality ingredients being used.

Previously available only in Las Vegas, Gordon Ramsay Burger promises an "experience like no other" at the  Knightsbridge department store Harrods.

Launching Gordon Ramsay Burger on his Instagram page, he said: "I'm really excited to announce, I'm bringing the Gordon Ramsay Burger to Harrods in Knightsbridge for the first time ever."

"Trust me, this is going to be a burger experience like no other as we've really elevated our patties using the most incredible mix of the UK's best cuts of meat."

According to the menu his signature ‘Wagyu burger’, on sale an eye-watering £80 for a Beef patty, seared Wagyu sirloin, truffle Pecorino cheese, cep mayonnaise and fresh black truffle.

Customers will also be able to enjoy a £42 'Lobster and Shrimp burger', served with pickled vegetables and herb aioli.

For vegetarians there is the 'Portobello Burger for £21 consisting of a roasted portobello mushroom, fontina cheese, Boursin cheese, shaved vegetables and fine herb aïoli.

Sides including truffle parmesan fries for £8 and beer battered onion rings for £7.

Foodies were divided on Twitter as to whether the prospect of eating at the new restaurant was mouth-watering or eye-watering.

One fan was in for a rude awakening, tweeting: “A burger in Harrods how much is that £25?”

Michael Stephens added: “Good timing Gordon...I can't think of a way to demonstrate being more out of touch with the reality of the economic climate in the UK at the moment.”

Another remarked: "Can't wait to officially visit your restaurant after this Covid mess is over."

One fan commented: "My heart is melted, if my net worth was the same as your weekly salary, I would definitely come to London tomorrow to taste that piece of heaven."

It’s not the first time Gordon Ramsay provoked the ire of his Twitter followers, after promoting a "Full English" breakfast at one of his restaurants – a fry-up which followers quickly realised was priced at a hefty £19.

The fairly slender breakfast – a short video of which was tweeted by Ramsay yesterday – will be on sale at the Savoy Grill restaurant.

Ramsay captioned the video with the phrase “the most amazing Full English”, along with details of the restaurant’s reopening, but some followers were less than impressed.

One asked “Where’s the rest of it?”, while another said: “Jeepers, you can get that (and way better) at any caff in London. Certainly no need to pay for it at the bloody Savoy, dearie.”
