Thick, black smoke billowed into the sky after a fire broke out at a tower block in Finsbury Park.

Smoke poured into the sky and flames were also visible on at least one balcony of the building in north London on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters attended the scene, in Biggerstaff street near to Holloway Road, and were seen blasting the building with water.

There have been no reports of injuries and the blaze has been brought under control.

Crowds of residents could be seen at ground level watching the firefighters at work.

Six fire engines and 40 firefighters attended the scene.

London Fire Brigade was called at 1.38pm and the fire was under control by 2.54pm.

Station Manager Brinley Powell who was at the scene said: “The fire affected the external balcony between two flats. Two breathing apparatus crews quickly extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading further.”
