London’s summer supercar season has kicked into gear.
Eye-wateringly expensive vehicles with foreign plates were spotted today in Mayfair.
The supercars are among hundreds shipped into the capital every summer by wealthy Arab owners from countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.
They are imported at huge cost by owners keen to escape scorching temperatures back home.
A £250,000 Lamborghini Aventador and a bright pink Rolls Royce were parked next to a dazzling chrome Mercedes-Benz McLaren outside the five-star Dorchester Hotel near Hyde Park on Tuesday.
This year’s season, which sees the cars imported at huge cost, comes after drivers complained a new police crackdown on anti-social driving was treating them like criminals.
Met officers now have the power to disperse and even seize the high-powered vehicles after receiving large numbers of complaints about “reckless and aggressive” driving in previous years.
Mohammed Al Madid, 30, who has shipped his white Mercedes AMG63 from Qatar, told the Standard last month: “This part of London is famous for luxury and we come here with our luxury cars in order to spend money, and yet we are treated like criminals.”
Another Qatari, Abdullah Al Manah, who drives a white Maserati, said: “I have been stopped twice just this weekend purely because my car was too loud, not because I was driving dangerously.
“I don’t understand why some people get so angry; we are here because this is a luxurious city.”
