Evening Standard website is most-visited by City Hall staff

Leading the way: Standard Online was the most-visited site for City Hall staff, beating Google, Facebook and the BBC

The Evening Standard’s website is more visited than any other by people working in the heart of London’s politics, it emerged today.

Politicians, advisors and officials using computers at City Hall gave the Standard more page hits than Google, Facebook, YouTube, Amazon and even the GLA’s own website.

Other media sites left in the Standard’s wake are those belonging to the BBC, Guardian, Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph.

A spokesperson from the Mayor’s Office said: “It is probably not surprising that GLA staff visit the Evening Standard on a regular basis.

“It is the main newspaper for London and our teams want to ensure they are abreast of the stories that it carries.”

A similar table released in 2013 showed the Standard as the tenth most visited website.

But new data released following a Freedom of Information request shows it has leapfrogged others into the top spot.

In second was the GLA website, followed by Google and the BBC.

Other pages that appeared in the top 50 list were those belonging to John Lewis, Argos, Easyjet, Tripadvisor, British Airways and the Met Office.

The only political website to appear in the top 50 was the Tory grassroots site Conservativehome.com.
