A 14-year-old boy has been killed after a van crashed into a Greenwich bus stop injuring two other pedestrians including another boy, aged eight.

Police are appealing for information after the smash at the Eltham Road junction with Kidbrooke Park Road at 3.30pm on Tuesday.

The driver, 40, was arrested after stopping at the scene. He has since been released under investigation.

A woman, aged 40, along with the two boys, were all taken to a south London hospital but the 14-year-old was pronounced dead an hour later.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The woman and eight-year-old remain in hospital where their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Lucie Card, leading the investigation, said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy. Our investigation into what happened is well underway but we need anyone who witnessed what happened to come forward and speak to us.

“Likewise, I would also ask any motorists in the area to review any dashcam footage that may have captured this collision. It is vital that with give this child’s family answers about what led to his death just a few days before Christmas.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 4357/21Dec.
