A man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after a pedestrian was killed in a crash in north London.

A 53-year-old man died after being hit by a car in Nightingale Road, Edmonton, just after 9.30pm on Monday.

He was pronounced dead in the street following the collision near the junction with Hertford Road.

The motorist, a 23-year-old man, stopped at the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.

The victim's next of kin have been informed, police said.

Detectives from the Met's roads and transport policing unit are investigating.
