Co-living firm behind 'London's most luxurious commune' to build second site in Stratford

'Co-living revolution': the 250-room block in Stratford will include a cinema room

The property company behind a pioneering co-living development described as “London’s most luxurious commune” has been given the green light for a second site in Stratford that includes shared hot tubs.

The Collective, which launched its first location in Acton last year, is due to open the 250-room block in east London late next year or early in 2019 after winning consent from the London Legacy Development Corporation. The 19-storey building is designed by architects PLP. A third site has been bought in Canary Wharf.

Tenants have a small bedroom with a tiny bathroom and basic “kitchenette” as their private space. All the other facilities are shared — including communal kitchens, gym, sauna, library, cinema room, outdoor hot tub, roof terraces, gallery space and a “Hackney Wick-inspired” food market.

Rent has not yet been set for the Stratford site but at The Collective Old Oak rooms start from £230 a week including utility bills, council tax, wifi, cleaning and gym access.

Reza Merchant, chief executive of The Collective, said: “London is at the forefront of the global co-living revolution, with significant demand for this new way of living. Co-living offers community-centric experiences and access to an enviable range of spaces and curated events.

"Our first site at Old Oak is now fully let, with a waiting list, and Stratford marks the perfect second location for us.”
